Heal your deep emotional wounds – God’s way

Holistic Biblical Counselling

Can God help me with my addiction problem?

Addiction (enthusiastically devoted to a particular thing or activity) is not a disease- it is normal …when we apply it in the right way… And the right way is being addicted to God! When we not addicted to God, we will shift our addiction in the wrong direction trying to satisfy which only God can satisfy.

Your brain is designed to latch onto something, so make sure it is latching onto God! For if we seek his kingdom first, renewing our minds with the aid of the Spirit, bringing heaven to earth in everything we do, all those things will be added! (See Matt. 6:33).

The sad part is if we don’t latch onto God, we will latch onto somebody, or something else. That could be a person like your wife/ husband. It could also be any form of substance abuse e.g. drugs or alcohol.

Learn from the eagle.

The Eagle does not fight the snake on the ground. It picks it up into the sky and changes the battle ground, and then it releases the snake into the sky. The snake has no stamina, no power and no balance in the air. It is useless, weak and vulnerable unlike on the ground where it is powerful wise and deadly. Take your fight into the spiritual realm by praying and when you are in the spiritual realm God takes over your battles.

Don’t fight the enemy (devil) in his comfort zone (spiritual darkness), change the battle grounds like the Eagle and let God take charge through your earnest prayer. You’ll be assured of clean victory. Pray without ceasing.

There is another dimension that God desires for you to operate in – THIS IS NOT IT! You have to break your own shell! God saw Egypt as a nest to care for, nurture, feed and grow – that is the purpose of a nest. There is so much greater within you than what you have manifested up to this point.

THIS IS NOT IT! You have to be radical and tenacious as you speak to your current situation (Proverbs 18:21). You have to have vision that is beyond your present circumstances (Proverbs 23:7). THIS IS NOT IT! Leave the chicken mind set behind and see yourself as an eagle preparing to SOAR! You were not built to be caged, depressed or defeated (Deuteronomy 28:13).

The nest can be as dangerous as it is a blessing; anything you adjust to, you will not fight out of. Leave the nest! Find your wings! If you can see it, you can be it!

Instead you must focus on something else (or someone else – Jesus!) who can help you overcome the temptation. I need to teach ourselves to be more “GOD conscious”.

Are you using your OWN WILLPOWER or are you using GOD’S POWER to resist Temptations? If you using your own will power, you are living on the edge, and then it will be a matter of time before you give in to your temptations. If you decide to use God’s power, it is sustainable, and you are moving out of the consciousness of having an addictive problem and experience the freedom of being in God’s presence.
